Barbara Kruger Assignmet

1)   What do you see in this piece of art (describe it)?

In this piece of art I see that people are trying to be too much alike and not showing their individuality.  People should be happy with themselves and not need to be like others to feel included.  I also see a need for people to be like others, to fit in, to hide their individuality.

2)   What kind of message did you try to give in this piece of art?

In this piece of art I tried to give the message that originality is a could thing, and that people should show their individualality.  I wanted to people to see that looking like everyone else is not always good, considering the people we try to model ourselelves after are not always healthy.  I also wanted people to see that sometimes when you make yourself look like someone else, you look very fake and often unhealthy, which makes people unhappy.

3)   Do you like or dislike this piece of art?  Why?

I like this piece of art because I think that it is very much like one of Kruger's pieces, and I think that the message is effectively portrayed.  I think that the contrast between the picture and the canvas really makes it stand out how similar the girls are.  I also like that the paint brush makes it look and feel that you have the choice to make the decision for your life, if you want to live like everyone else or if you create someone original.

Barbara Kruger Critique

1)   What do you see in this piece of art (describe it)?

In the image with the message "You can't drag your money into the grave with you," I see an empty pair of shoes, which to me means that someone is gone.  It can also mean that this person is not leaving any impact or any positive impact on the society that they have left.  With the message, I think that the person had the ability and financial stability to help but they were over conservative and left without helping.

2)  What kind of message is the artist giving in this piece of art?

The message "You can't drag your money into the grave with you," means that people in society that have money do not spend it wisely and they do not normally spend in ways that benefit society.  I also think that through this message Kruger is saying that she feels people are greedy with their money, thinking that since they have it, it is theirs and always will be.  However, we all know that we cannot take our possessions with us after we die, yet people still conserve everything they have and do not use what they have to benefit others.

3)    Do you like or dislike Kruger’s work? Why?

I really enjoy Kruger's work and the messages that it portrays to the people that see it.  I like that Kruger is able to, in a creative and very effective way, critique what is wrong in our society.  I personally fine her messages very inspiring to try and make a difference in my own life and community towards the issues she has pointed out.  I feel that if more people saw and understood Kruger's art, our society and world could be a much happier place.

Candylander Reflection

1) What do you like most about your game?

In my game I like that all the ground levels are very different and that they greatly resemble a Candyland.  I also like that although there is a great variety of colours, they go well together and do not overwhelm the viewer.

2)What do you like the least about your game?

What I do not like from my game is the explosion, it is not very explosion like since it does not explode my character just shrinks.  I also do not like that although the levels are not very difficult.  I do not like this because the player might get bored playing if it is not difficult.

3) How is your game better than the original?

My game is better than the original because it is much more creative and colourful.  I think that this makes it better than the original because since it has a more creative theme and colour scheme, players and viewers will be more interested in the game.

Graphic Redesign- Moonlander Brainstorming

My new design for the Moonlander game is a Candyland theme.  My game will use many light colours like pastels.  The layer levels will have many scenes much like the ones in the game, including gum drops and frosted mountains.
Some pictures I will use as inspiration are

PhotoText Assignment

1. What I like most (overall for the three)?
Overall for the three photos I like that the lyrics fit into the picture, I like this because it makes the lyrics look more like they are apart of the picture, not just sitting on top.  I think that this adds to my picture because the viewer can then focus on other things within the picture not just the lyrics.  I also like the filters used on all the different pictures.  I think that the filters I used help to make the lyrics look like they are part of the picture.

2. What can be improved (overall for the three)?
Overall in the three photos I think that the colour is something that can be done differently. I think that the photos could be dodged and burned sot he colours are more vibrant.  Another thing that could have been changed is the colours of the text, by changing the colour the text would have blended in the the picture more.  This would have helped my photos because if the text fit in with the photos.

3. Which specific picture was most successful of the three?
I think that my most successful photo was the black and white photo.  I think that this one was the most successful because by having the photo in black and white, it was easier to pick a colour for the font so the text blended more.  I also think that the filter on the background helps the lyrics to blend with the text, since I used the cut out filter the text did not look as chopped or plainly on top.  Lastly I like the way the grass looks at the bottom since with the entire photo done in black and white the burst of colour really adds a lot to the photo.

Invention

1. What part of your finished project did you find most successful and why?
I found that the band part of my resizing band was the most successful because the texture over the colour makes the band look very realistic. I think that this texture makes the band to look very realistic because it looks like a cloth or fabric texture which is what the band would be covered with if it was created.

2. What part of your finished project did you find least successful and why?
I found that the buttons and the screen area least successful because I was unable to properly flatten the screen without ruining the underside of the band. If I would have been able to flatten it I think that this part would have turned out much better and would have made my invention look much more realistic.

3. Why do you think this would be a great invention for the future?
My invention would be great for the future because in the future we will have the technology available to create a Resizing Band. This invention will be useful for all people because no one likes carrying heavy or large objects, so by using the resizing band people will be able to shrink the object carry or move it, and when it is put in it’s proper place resize it again to the desired size. A good example for where this would be used is students carrying their books back and forth to school. Students could shrink their books to reduce the weight of their backpack and resize them to proper size once at home and school to complete work. Having this invention would not only help for carrying and moving objects but also with any back problems caused by carrying objects improperly.

Invention Design Brainstorming

Step One:
1)Give reasons for why you think Da Vinci invented the inventions on the reverse of this sheet.
I think that Da Vinci invented the things he did because he thought that they would be useful for doing things in a simpler or safer way. Almost all of Da Vinci's inventions involve the idea of flight which makes me think that this was something that fascinated Da Vinci.  It seems to me that his inventions were all to make like easier for him and the people of his time.  With the invention of the armoured vehicle it could be that he was worried about safety, and wanted to have something so people could be protected.

2) Choose one of Da Vinci’s inventions, and explain why you think it has had the biggest impact on modern society.
I think that Da Vinci's invention of the flying machine, known to us as a plane, has had the most impact on today's society.  By looking at today's society it is easy to see that from the invention of the flying machine we are now able to do many things faster and more efficient than before.  Travel for instance can take only a few hours to go somewhere that could have taken days possibly even weeks without being able to fly.  Shipping and sending packages is another everyday thing that has been greatly affected by the invention of the flying machine, since we are now able to send packages across the world in a matter of days,  something that would have taken months without.

STEP TWO:

1) Resizing Band: Something you would wear on your wrist like a watch, that is able to size things so they are more convenient to be carried around or stored.

2) Dream Projector: An earpiece that you have in while you sleep, and when you wake up connect to your computer and it will show you your dreams.

3) Infinite Nail Polish: Nail polish that only comes off when you take it off.
Make up a list of 3 inventions that would enrich our lives.

Alter Ego

Reflection

How does this image show your alter ego?

This image shows my alter ego because through images like the background, the flower, the tree and the leaf you can easily tell that I greatly enjoy being outdoors and that I love nature.  You are also able to see that I enjoy travel through the photograph of the world, the plane and the Eiffel Tower.

What aspect of your image do you find most successful and why?

I find the image of the world the most successful aspect of this image, because I think that it really makes you think when you look at it.  When first looking at the image you can see with the world and the plane that I enjoy travel and hope to travel the world, but by thinking about it more I hope that people are able to see that with the hands I want to be able to help and mae a differnce in the world.

What aspect of your image do you find least successful and why?

I think tha tthe least successful aspect of the image is the picutre of myself because with the colours of other images it was difficult to make the image work with the other picutres, and still be a focal point of my image.

If you could do this project again, what changes would you make to improve it?

If I could do this project again I would try and find more pictures of the world, that would make people think of deeper meanings when they look at the image.
